- Ouddorp Beach – Our Impressions
The Dutch people are lucky to have the sea so close to almost everyone living in The Netherlands.
As usual, we drew a Google Map where we marked all places visited in our The Netherlands: Epic 10 Days for Perfect Itinerary Road Trip with Maps.
Ouddorp Beach (Strand Ouddorp)
Ouddorp Beach (Strand Ouddorp in Dutch) is an 18 km (11 mi) long beach on the outskirts of the Ouddorp village in Southern Holland. A row of dunes separates the beach and Ouddorp village. On the top of one of the dunes is a long bicycle track so everyone can easily and safely come to the beach from Ouddorp village.
Since we live in Norway, we noticed many words in Dutch to be similar to Norwegian.
There are several things worth mentioning so you can prepare for the best experience on the beach.
- You must walk a bit to come to the beach.
- Once you reach the sandy part, you have several minutes to walk to the swimming part, so make sure you don’t forget something in the car.
- The beach is empty, so be sure you bring your beach umbrellas, chairs, towels, mat, etc.
- Do not lay your gear close to the water since tides are fast on the beach, so you avoid quick gear flooding.
- Water is shallow, and you must walk for some time to reach swimming depth.
- The sea bed is sandy, so you do not need the beach shoes.
We expected to see some sand sailing enthusiasts in blow carts. We found later that sand sailors and kite lovers are at Brouwersdam Beach, a bit south of Ouddorp.
However, there were summer teenagers surfing school lessons while we were on the beach.
If you wonder whether the water is cold, the answer is subjective. We live in Norway, so we are used to lower water temperatures. The water temperature was just fine for us.
Where Is Ouddorp Beach Located?
Ouddorp Beach is around 60 km (37 mi) southwest of Rotterdam and is a 45-minute drive by car. A visit to Ouddorp Beach was part of our The Netherlands: Epic 10 Days for Perfect Itinerary Road Trip with Maps, so we create a Google Map to easily navigate The Netherlands.
How To Reach Ouddorp Beach?
We reached Ouddorp Beach by car. That was by far the most convenient mean of transportation. On the way to the beach from Rotterdam, we noticed that the Dutch prefer to dig the tunnels under the river and canal beds since water transport has priority compared to road transport.
However, we experienced a one-stop at Bascule Bridge due to crossing over the river. So no wonder a new solution to go under the river bed is more efficient and popular with road drivers.

Where To Park For Ouddorp Beach?
There are several huge parking lots on this long beach. We barely saw too many cars on the spot where we parked, although it was mid-July. We guess many Dutch people were already on holiday somewhere else in Europe.
When Is The Best Time To Visit Ouddorp Beach?
We visited Ouddorp Beach in Mid-July and we had nice weather, a little bit of swimming, and a relaxing half-day excursion.
Where To Eat?
There are several cafés along the beach, which are at the beginning of the sand beach. That means several minutes of walking over the sand to them. However, we didn’t use their services, so we cannot recommend any from personal experience.
Where To Stay?
We stayed at Novotel Rotterdam Brainpark, a short distance from the subway station and not too far from the highway since we arrived by car. The room was tidy, with a big king bed and a nice view over the Rotterdam. The hotel reception was smooth services. To exit the parking, you must ask for a parking card for the gate reader. We skipped the offer for breakfast since it was too expensive. All in all, we were satisfied with the location, room, service, etc.

What Is Nearby Ouddorp Beach?
We drew a Google Map so you can follow our The Netherlands: Epic 10 Days for Perfect Itinerary Road Trip with Maps. All the below suggestions are marked on the map.
Rotterdam
Rotterdam is the second-largest city in the Netherlands and the biggest seaport in Europe. The city was raised like a Felix from the ashes after being almost completely demolished in WWII.
Kinderdijk Windmills
The Kinderdijk Windmills are a group of 19 windmills near the village of Kinderdijk. They were built in the 18th century to help manage water levels in the area. Because the Kinderdijk area is below sea level and prone to flooding. Although both Zaanse Schans and Kinderdijk are world-renowned windmills locations, the reasons for their building and existence are very different.
Ouddorp Beach – Our Impressions
Visiting Ouddorp Beach was a nice bonus to our whole trip. We didn’t expect much. But we spent a half day on the beach and had a good time.
So if you have some extra time and the day is sunny, we highly recommend spending time on the Dutch beaches.
The downsides were no facilities on the beach and long walking distance, especially the sandy part.
We made a Google Map so you can follow our The Netherlands: Epic 10 Days for Perfect Itinerary Road Trip with Maps.
We wish you an epic trip!
